How do you learn anything faster?

Oil painting by Artist M K Quadri.

This blog is for students of all ages and all stages. This is for parents that want to help students. If you’re going for your MBA, you’re in medical school or your student of life. You have to prepare for a meeting a sales call. You need to absorb a lot of information in a very short period of time, so questions arise about how to do it?

How would I approach studying new material in a short period of time?

Now, we know that there’s a difference between studying to remember and cramming to forget. if you’ve ever crammed information in your mind. You don’t take any breaks, you pull an all-nighter. You don’t sleep. And you just the next morning. Nobody could talk to you. Because you don’t want anything to slip out during breakfast.  Because you have to save it all inside because you can’t wait to take the test. And when you take the test, you don’t know if you know the answers are not. And but when you’re done, what happens for sure, that all the information is gone, right?

How to achieve study goals?

So how would I go about being more efficient in my cramming or in my studying? Well, let’s go through something which I recommend if you’re reading to this and you’re able to to take some notes. one of the first keys to learning anything faster, any subject is to have a goal. when I sit down, I want to ask questions, I want to have a target in mind. A lot of people don’t learn something because they just don’t know what they’re looking for. They don’t know when they’re going to be successful. And remember this? Questions are the answer. Ask yourself many questions. If you ask a question, you will definitely get the answer. Stimulate that part of your brain called the reticular activating system. Rush to direct your focus and your awareness. They get you alert and then you’re like, oh, there’s an answer. There’s an answer, there are answers. So first, Prime yourself with questions. Now, I would also say, remember this as a reminder. And keep asking questions as much as you can it will change you.

What is emotional memory? How does emotional memory help in our study?

We remember things easily which is attached to some emotions. As a quick reminder, all learning is state-dependent memory. That means if you learn something in a broad State,  information by itself is forgettable. But information combined with emotion becomes unforgettable. how can you add some fun to your studies? How can you add a little bit more interest and excitement? It varies by person. you know Everyone is unique on the planet. Some people before they start studying, they will play or they’ll play music in the background. Do you have a song that puts you in the mood to get to focus and get you motivated? Get you excited about something. Some people do something, some jumping jacks or some cartwheels. They do something rebounding, they move their body. If it’s a smile on their faces because you have to up your emotion. Because if you’re in a board sedated state the information will not be encoded very strong.  So you’re not gonna be able to retrieve the information outside of your mind. So just remember that.

How to avoid distractions while studying?

it’s not just your internal environment. The next tip would be to optimize your external environment. What do I mean by that? Your workspace and I would highly recommend if you could avoid it, do not work on your bed. I see so many people of all ages working in their beds. Please try to understand a very important thing. The environment where you’re learning something. That environment gets encoded with the information and the feelings. An emotion that comes from an environment. Some people get attached to that.

As some people have sleep issues. Because they work in bed and they can’t differentiate between their sleep time or study time.  Or if you associate bed, to go to sleep. You’re not going to be very efficient in your study. So, either way, it’s a lose-lose, right? what’s an ideal environment. It’s never going to be perfect. there could be kids around. There could be distractions. There could be noise but do the best you can. Some people are learning remotely. Maybe they’re working remotely. You can’t have a dedicated environment.

Try to do the best you can to free yourself from the enemy of your focus, which is distractions. Tell your family that this is your study time. Your mobile phone is the biggest distraction, I put an aeroplane mode or even better yet, put it in another room. Because even if it’s there, like, even at the dinner table, you feel like you have to kind of check it, you know, out of habit. Turn off all the alerts. Set a countdown timer for 30-40 minutes, It is Pomodoro Technique. Take a break after completing a small session of your study. Refresh yourself with a small walk and stretching or you can listen to some music. It can add more value to your study work.

How to prepare a dedicated place for study?

Try to make every area of your home or your office dedicated to certain works. The place where you do work lighting should be appropriate. You know, the fluorescent light, is not the best. It might make you tired. You could find some high strain there in direct sunlight. So find a place with the optimal temperature. Find something that’s not putting you to sleep. That keeps you alert sometimes for most people it’s a little bit on the cool side.

Also, good Airflow because oxygen is so important in the process. You’re getting a good environment. Another very important thing is keeping yourself hydrated, It’s like hydrating your brain. It is 85% water. Give rest to your eyes watch some greening around you. Do water your plants. Watch beautiful things created by the nature. Go outside take a walk, do some exercise every day. play your favourite outdoor sports. It will make you happy and your productivity will increase. Your sitting posture should be proper otherwise over a period of time you will get back pain issues.

What should I do at the beginning and end of the study session?

Now at the beginning and end of your study session, some simple things you could do that is quiz yourself. Quiz yourself at the end of what you learned. or when you’re coming back from your brain break, start your Beginnings with quizzing. it is a final bonus besides active retrieval of quizzing yourself i. e. explain to someone what you have learnt, and discuss your own views on the subject. I would be very happy to get your comments if you want to ask anything related to the above subject.
